The cricket world is all set to witness yet another T20 league. The squads for the Global T20 Canada League have been finalized. One of the major attractions of the tournament will be the return of Steve Smith and David Warner on the cricket field. Steve Smith is set to play for the Toronto Nationals in the tournament. At the Nationals setup, a star Hong Kong batsman is eagerly waiting to meet Steve Smith. He is Nizakat Khan.
Nizakat Khan and the captain of the Hong Kong team, Babar Hayat, are the two players from Hong Kong who have made it to the Global T20 Canada League. While Hayat’s participation is subject to his fitness clearance since he is nursing a finger injury, Nizakat is set to show his skills at the bigger stage. As per the quotes in SCMP, he remarked that he is looking forward to play with someone as big as Steve Smith.
“It’s going to be one of my career highlights to be honest, playing with some of the biggest names in test cricket. I’m very lucky to be playing alongside Steve Smith,” Nizakat Khan quoted.
On Darren Sammy’s impact
Speaking further on the same note, Nizakat Khan also credited Darren Sammy for his contribution to his cricket development. Nizakat played alongside Darren Sammy in the Hong Kongs T20 Blitz for the Hom JD Jaguars. Nizakat reiterated that the league in Canada is a good way to showcase the talents for players like him.
“Darren Sammy has been helping me out a lot and I really want to thank him. I also appreciate the support of [governing body] Cricket Hong Kong. This is a great opportunity to show what Hong Kong cricketers can do on the world stage. It’s a good chance to prove myself,” Nizakat mentioned.
Hong Kong’s next major assignment is the Asia Cup qualifiers in India in September. Hong Kong will vie with Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Singapore and United Arab Emirates for one place in the finals in UAE soon after the qualifier.
