Hong Kong World Sixes 2017: Finals Day Preview and live streaming details

After a five year gap, Hong Kong World Sixes was back with a bang on Saturday and the tournament grabbed quite a lot of limelight. From the home side getting off to a mediocre start to Pakistan managing to win all their games, it was a thoroughly entertaining day for the fans who came out in decent numbers.

Pakistan remained the only unbeaten team at the end of all the 12 matches on the day. The side boasts some big names like Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Sami and managed to reign supreme across all departments. South Africa on the other hand, lost just one game by narrow margins to the Green team. Sri Lanka finished with just a single win and remained at the bottom of the table in Group B.

Bangladesh’s brilliant show was quite a surprise on the day. They managed to win two out of their three games and registered two scintillating wins against Australia and Sri Lanka. They surrendered to New Zealand in their second game but managed to grab the second spot in Group B. New Zealand also finished with two wins and remained on the top of Group B.

Tournament’s debutants MCC had a day to forget. They lost all their games in Group A and finished at the bottom. Barring the, everyone else managed to grab a win. Despite having some International stars like Ben Laughlin and John Hastings, they had a mediocre day on the field. They won just one game and finished 3rd in Group B.

Day starts with Exhibition match between Hong Kong Women v Dragons

Quarter-final 1 – Pakistan v MCC, 6:15 am IST

The final day’s main matches will begin with the quarter-final clashes between the all the eight sides. The finals day will begin with Pakistan taking on MCC. Whilst Pakistan remained the only undefeated side, MCC are the only team to taste a victory yet. Pakistan are looking formidable with the bat and it’ll be interesting to see if they can replicate their heroics on the day when it matters.

Quarter-final 2 – New Zealand v Hong Kong, 7:00 am IST

The hosts will have to face the Blackcaps in their quarter-finals and this will not be such an easy encounter for them. Hong Kong’s only win on the day came against MCC and they failed to do anything brilliant against Pakistan or South Africa. New Zealand pulled off two run chases on the first day and they’ll look to back their strength, which is their batting.

Quarter-final 3 – Bangladesh v Australia, 7:45 am IST

A relatively poor performance from Sri Lanka saw them finish below their quarter-final opponents Bangladesh. Sri Lanka failed to chase down the 94-run target set by the Tigers on the first day. The only win they registered on the day was against Australia and it was whilst defending a total. Bangladesh, who secured two wins against two top sides, are hoping to take away something big from the tournament.

Quarter-final 4 – South Africa v Sri Lanka, 8:30 am IST

The last one of the final 8 clashes will be a blockbuster. South Africa will lock horns with Australia and the defending champions will be given a tough Test from the side from down under. Barring a disappointing bowling performance against Pakistan, South Africa haven’t put a foot wrong in the tournament. Australia lost two of their three games on day 1 and they’ll be wary of a fact that the Proteas are chasing totals brilliantly.

Plate Finals

All the teams losing in the quarter-final clashes will be taking on each other in the Plate finals. Firstly, the four losing teams from the round of 8 will take each other on in two semifinals. The winners go to the finals to play a six over contest.

Cup Finals

The teams winning their respective quarter-final clashes will combat against each other for the main trophy. South Africa, who managed to win the previous edition of this tournament will look to lay their hands on the coveted trophy yet again, whilst Pakistan will look to avenge their defeat in the final in 2012. Bangladesh is playing decent cricket as well and it’d come as no surprise if they feature in the Cup ties.
