The hunt for India next head coach will soon end in a matter of few hours as the BCCI president Anurag Thakur confirmed that the board will announce the name of the selected candidate before the end of the day (Thursday).

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were involved in the section procedure and interviewed the shortlisted candidate at the start of this week.

The later it was understood the race is on between former director Ravi Shastri and spin bowling legend Anil Kumble. Both were looked upon as the front-runners to grab the top post. However, reportedly, Kumble, who has no prior experience in coaching any side, seem have become the top choice and will most likely take up the job, according to the CNN-News18 sources.

While Kumble seems to have grabbed the pole position, the world will come to know by Thursday evening who is going to get the one of the most high-profile jobs in cricket.

“We are trying that the name is announced by the end of India’s first Annual Cricket Conclave in Dharamsala, which is today. And I hope it is done before the evening,” BCCI president Anurag Thakur told reporters.

The BCCI received 57 applications for the post and trimmed it down to 21 before handing over the list to CAC that interviewed the candidates shortlisted by them. Among them were Ravi Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Pravin Amre, Kumble, Tom Moody, Stuart Law and Andy Moles.

The CAC, sources said, was bowled over by Kumble’s presentation and has reportedly conveyed his name as the candidate of choice to board secretary, Ajay Shirke.
