'Hope you liked the gift'- Hanuma Vihari to his wife after scoring a hundred; she responds
Vihari came in to bat when India was struggling at 39/4.
India kick-started their preparations for the upcoming ICC Test Champions Test matches against New Zealand with a three-day practice match against NZ-XI at Seddon Park in Hamilton. India batted first and once again the fragility of their top-order was exposed to the hilt with the incumbent opener Mayank Agarwal [1] and the contenders for the second opening spot- Prithvi Shaw [0] and Shubman Gill [0]- failing to counter the extra bounce.
The Men in Blue soon found themselves reeling at 5/3 which quickly became 39/4 after Ajinya Rahane was dismissed by all-rounder James Neesham. The dismissal of Rahane brought Hanuma Vihari to the crease and the Andhra batsman once again showed his ability to adjust to any kind of situation and surface to smoke a well-paced 101 before eventually retiring not-out.
Vihari’s innings not only served as a gift for Team India who were in trouble when he came in to bat, but it also served as the perfect Valentines Day gift for his wife Preethiraj. Hanuma Vihari took to Instagram where he posted the collage of his innings and captioned it as, “Hope you liked the gift! @preethirajy.”
The cricketer’s wife was also quick to respond to the message and conveyed to her husband that she loved the gift. ‘I loved it,” Preethiraj’s reply read.
Hanuma Vihari open to performing any role for the team
Hanuma Vihari was the leading run-scorer- 289 runs in 4 innings at 96.33- in his last Test series- against West Indies but he did not get a chance to play in the home season after the first Test against South Africa. Not the one to be unfazed by all this, Vihari is looking forward to playing whatever role that the team management wants him to perform in the upcoming Tests- even if it includes opening the innings; something he did at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the 2018-19 Boxing Day Test.
“As a player, I am prepared to bat anywhere. As of now, I’ve not been informed anything. As I said before as well if the team requires me to bat wherever I am ready to bat,” said Vihari, who retired after scoring 101 off 182 balls as quoted by Republic.
