'Hopefully be back on the field soon' - Faf du Plessis gives health update after nasty collision during PSL 2021
While the 36-year-old is hopeful about making a return soon, there is no official confirmation as yet about his comeback.
Informing about his health after a nasty collision during Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators’ PSL fixture, Faf du Plessis stated that he will “hopefully be back on the field soon.” The incident occurred during the 19th match of the ongoing PSL edition in Abu Dhabi.
du Plessis took a massive blow to the head when he ran straight into his teammate Mohammad Hasnain during the seventh over of Peshawar’s Zalmi’s innings while he was trying to dive and stop the ball driven by David Miller in the ‘V’. Running from long-on, he dived with some momentum and crashed straight into Hasnain’s knee, who ran in from long-off. du Plessis fell flat on the ground before he was attended by the medics and was taken off the field with Saim Ayub replacing him.
“Thank you everyone for all the messages of support. I’m back at the hotel recovering. Have concussion with some memory loss but I will be fine. Hopefully be back on the field soon. Much love,” he wrote on Twitter on June 13 in what was the first update ever since he was hospitalized.
Earlier, Faf’s wife, Imari Visser, reacted looking at the injury. She took to her Instagram story and wrote, “This is killing me right now. Surely he should be checked in hospital?!??”.
Faf du Plessis’ future participation in question
While the 36-year-old is hopeful about making a return soon, there is no official confirmation as yet about his comeback. Notably, the Gladiators, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with only a solitary win from seven games, had to use a concussion substitute for the second consecutive instance.
During their previous fixture against the Islamabad United, Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell copped a blow to his helmet from a Mohammad Musa bouncer and was replaced by pacer Naseem Shah. He was not a part of the clash against Zalmi when Faf was concussed.
It remains to be seen when both Russell and du Plessis make comeback for their team that is set to meet the current table-toppers Lahore Qalandars on 15 June 2021 (Tuesday).
