The date, 15th August and time 7:29 PM IST didn’t go down the spines of MS Dhoni’s fans all over the world. It is the same time, when captain cool took to his Instagram handle and announced his retirement in the most silent way. The nation underwent a feeling of complete shock and misery as their captain walked out of the international cricket.
Though we weren’t fortunate enough to see him on cricket field post 2019 semi final match against New Zealand, his admirers had dreamt of watching Mahi flaunt his class in 2021 T20 World Cup. What left people startled was the fact that how things ended for both real and reel life Dhoni in 2020.
Yes we are talking about Sushant Singh Rajput who was an emerging heartthrob of Bollywood. He ended his life at his Bandra residence in Mumbai on 14th June this year. Where Real Dhoni decided to end his cricketing career in 2020, the passing away of the reel one left us all in the puddle of grief.
Why Sushant Singh Rajput was real close to MS Dhoni?
The reason why Dhoni’s biopic was showered it with so much love was Sushant Singh Rajput. His utmost real depiction of Dhoni on screen made people realize what madness and passion captain cool carried for the game of cricket. People knew MS Dhoni after he stepped into the international arena and tasted success, but saga of what lied behind and everything in between was shown in his biopic.
And yes, the credit goes to Rajput hands down for letting us have the surreal cinematic experience and making us see the real Dhoni. The lines that struck heart’s chord in the movie were -‘Maahi maar raha hai’, ‘Maahi sambhal lega’ and yes ‘Dhoni finishes off things in style’. To be very honest, these lines had parallels in the real life too where the team relied on captain’s shoulder blindly.
Being one of best finishers in the world, he has really set the pedestal high for people to achieve in future. The way Sushant ran madly on railway platforms to reach cricket field and play speaks volumes about the dedication MSD had for game.
On the day of Sushant’s demise, MS Dhoni remembered how the young hero sat with him for hours to copy his exact style, shots and lifestyle for the movie. He too mourned the death of young actor and said its hard to believe. Having lifted all the three ICC trophies and gaining immense love from people around the world, the 39-year-old hung his boots. Having said that, fans across the globe will miss both real and reel Dhoni for their par excellence in respective fields.
