Huge crowd gathers outside Ravi Bishnoi's home for celebration as leg-spinner earns maiden Team India call-up

Ravi Bishnoi received a maiden Team India call-up on Wednesday (January 26) and celebrations went underway outside his home in Rajasthan. The young leg-spinner has been selected for the ODI and T20I series against West Indies at home, starting from February 6. Having represented India in the U19 World Cup in 2020, Bishnoi has made a sensational start to his professional career and is backed to go a long way.

Unlike traditional leg-spinners, Bishnoi doesn’t tend to give the ball a lot of air. He instead likes to dart the ball into the stumps and the approach has earned him a lot of success. With 17 wickets in six games, Bishnoi finished as the highest wicket-taker of the 2020 U19 World Cup as the Boys in Blue advanced to the summit clash.

His numbers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) aren’t ordinary either. Having played for Punjab Kings in the last two seasons, the 21-year-old scalped 24 wickets in 23 games with his economy rate being below 7. With Indian spinners enduring a hard time in the preceding ODI series against South Africa, Bishnoi’s selection was on the cards and the same was confirmed by BCCI on Wednesday night.

Soon after the major news broke out, a huge crowd gathered outside Bishnoi’s home for celebration. There were drums being played with people dancing in delight. The video of the same went viral on social media with congratulatory messages for the youngster pouring in from different corners.

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the other spin-bowling options in India’s squad as far the ODI leg is concerned. Hence, it remains to be seen if Bishnoi, who’ll play for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022, makes a cut in the playing XI or not.
