Oval Invincibles picked up an important victory against the London Spirit in Match 27 of the Hundred Men‘s 2022 at the Lord’s in London. With the win, the Invincibles have moved to third position in the points table while the Spirit are at the second position at the moment.
Earlier in the game, London Spirit elected to bat first after winning the toss, and the new ball bowlers Sam Curran alongside Peter Hatzoglou claimed early wickets. Adam Rossington was the only batter who got going with a brisk innings of 36 off 22, which comprised of four fours and a six. Dan Lawrence was dismissed for a run-a-ball 14 while skipper Eoin Morgan perished for five, leaving the Spirit tottering at 67/5.
Sam Curran’s three-wicket haul does the trick
Ravi Bopara and Jordan Thompson stuck around for a while and added some handy runs to the tally, but Curran came for a final spell and managed to get rid of both as Spirit ended up with just 122/7. Curran was the pick of the bowlers with 3/16 in his spell at 0.80 runs per ball.
In reply, the Oval Invincibles got off to a decent start with Will Jacks continuing his rich form, while Jordan Cox was dismissed for just nine. Rilee Rossouw provided good support while Jacks reached another half-century in the season. Jacks’ 38-ball 54 comprised of five fours and two sixes and brought down the equation to a manageable rate. It was only a formality after that, as the Curran brothers were sent up the order to finish off the game quickly.
While Sam was dismissed quickly, his brother Tom Curran capitalised on his form and finished off the game in style with an unbeaten 9-ball 19 to seal an important victory for his side. Thompson was the pick of the bowlers with 2/22 in his 16 balls, while Liam Dawson and Nathan Ellis picked up one wicket each.
