Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Devon Conway has lauded former franchise skipper MS Dhoni and expressed how dearly he wanted to player under captaincy of the legendary player. To note, Conway was bagged by the defending champions at a cost of INR one crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.
The left-handed batter failed to perform in the tournament opener as he got out after making only three runs. The 30-year-old was caught at mid-on on while trying to play a big shot during the field restrictions. He became the second victim of Umesh Yadav who was going through a brilliant opening burst.
I will be around always: MS Dhoni’s reply to Conway
Devon Conway also recalled a conversation with MS Dhoni when the latter stepped down from the captaincy and stated that he also had a chat with him and current skipper Ravindra Jadeja. “I always wanted to play under the MS, the great MS Dhoni as a captain and I had a nice little conversation with him and said that you sure you don’t want to captain one more season, so you I can play under you as captain.
“But, he said no and said that I will be always around. Couple days back, I had lunch and sat between MS and Jaddu (Jadeja) and had a chat. They are very down to earth and easy to talk to,” said Conway in the video posted by CSK.

Even though Conway failed to make an impact in his first IPL match, the left-handed Kiwi is a special talent to say the least. In 20 T20 matches, Conway has already scored 602 runs with an impressive average of 50.17. The left-handed batter plays with a strike rate of almost 140. He has also stroked four fifties in the 20-over format.
Meanwhile, the defending champions after losing their first encounter against KKR will take on the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). To note, LSG have also lost their opening encounter against Gujarat Titans. The match between CSK and LSG will be played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 31 (Thursday). It is going to be an exciting contest as both teams will look to open their account in the points table.
