The historic Test series between Australia and Pakistan kept a lot of cricket fans on the edge of their seats before the opening Test produced a dull draw in Rawalpindi, only to put off a large chunk of fanatics. The pitch received great backlash as it had nothing to offer for pacers and runs came in plenty in the same conditions. However, Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq left no stone unturned in order to shine against tough opponents.
He shined with back-to-back centuries and gave the credit for the same to his parents. The left-handed batter added that his domestic stint helped him produce a great show in front of Australia after marking a Test comeback after one year. However, a lot of people were not convinced with his performance to which he added that he is used to receiving all the criticism.
“Nobody wants a draw. The curators did not prepare the pitch on my orders nor is he my relative. Cricket Australia also does not curate pitches on our advice when we tour Australia either. Every team curates pitches based on their strengths. It does not matter the type of pitch, my job is to perform,” said Haq in a virtual press conference as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
I am not sad about the criticism because my job is to perform: Imam-ul-Haq
“I am always criticized no matter if I am on the team or not. I am not sad about the criticism because my job is to perform. It is up to the management to decide whether my runs in the Rawalpindi Test match are quality or not. The sign after scoring the century was for the captain and my teammates. However, I will not reveal the reason behind it,” he added.
A lot of big names from the cricket fraternity came up to criticize the pitch prepared for Rawalpindi Test which offered nothing for pacers, but batters kept enjoying their show. However, it remains to be seen how will the pitch for the second Test between two teams be prepared in Karachi.
