I am an all-rounder and I want to tell the world I can do both roles: Venkatesh Iyer
Iyer has been very impressive for KKR in the second half of the tournament so far.
Kolkata Knight Riders have experienced a successful run in the UAE leg of the IPL. The team secured two consecutive victories after the resumption of the IPL and promoted themselves up the order of the points table. However, one player from KKR that has grabbed a lot of attention is Venkatesh Iyer.
Iyer has been very impressive for the team in the second half of the tournament so far. His versatility and fearless approach to batting fetched him a lot of praises from the cricketing fraternity and the fans. In the four matches so far, he has chipped in 126 runs at an average of 42.00. The flying starts from him have enabled KKR to get into a commanding position of the game.
Venkatesh Iyer on his bowling against DC
However, in the previous game against Delhi Capitals, though Iyer couldn’t contribute much with the bat, he scalped two wickets. He sent Hetmyer and Axar Patel back to the hut and put Delhi in the driver’s seat. Opening up on his performance he said that he looks forward to presenting his all-rounder abilities to the world.
“I am an all-rounder and I want to tell the world that I can do roles as both batsman and bowler. When skipper Eoin Morgan handed me the ball, I was just focusing on the first six balls. Obviously, I had the thought of bowling three or four overs, but initially, I just focused on bowling the six balls perfectly,” Venkatesh Iyer said to Rana in a video posted by IPL on Twitter
KKR restricted DC at just 127 but whilst chasing down the total, they lost frequent wickets. Gill added 30 runs before he lost his wicket to Rabada. However, Sunil Narine’s cameo of 21 runs off 10 balls followed by Nitish Rana’s finishing touch took KKR to their third victory of the UAE leg.
“I knew Shubman Gill was there, he and I thought of taking the game deep. These conditions suit me, I never thought the game was slipping away from us. I did not panic at all. Sunil Narine came in and I told him that we are just two-three hits away from winning. He nodded and I knew he was in his zone. He took Kagiso Rabada on and I figured that he was in the zone and Narine was able to capitalize,” Rana said.
