Imran Tahir was one of the best leg-spinners to have represented South Africa at the highest level as he bamboozled the best in the business with his googlies. Tahir, who was born in Lahore decided to migrate to the ‘Rainbow Nation’ when he was not getting a chance to break into the Pakistan cricket team. A late entrant in international cricket at the age of 31, the spinner succeeded in making the most of his opportunities and had a great career for almost a decade.

Along with all-rounder JP Duminy, he decided to bid adieu to international cricket after the conclusion of the World Cup 2019 where South Africa had a disastrous campaign and even though he continues to play franchise cricket across the globe, the veteran spinner has said that he still has got enough firepower in him to represent the Proteas in this year’s ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in Australia.

“I am still available for selection in T20Is. I believe I am fit enough to play in the T20 World Cup. I hope that selectors will consider my performances around the world. If they do, I am sure they’ll find me a deserving candidate”, said Tahir while speaking to Geo News.

I am thankful to South Africa: Imran Tahir

Meanwhile, the Lahore spinner expressed gratitude to South Africa for giving him an opportunity to excel at the highest level and making him realize his dreams.

“It is a strange feeling that I am an overseas player for Pakistan where I was born and even played my initial cricket, but I am also thankful to South Africa that they gave me a chance to reach my dreams and prove myself in international cricket”, he said.

Tahir had participated in the just-concluded Legends League Cricket 2022 where he was a key member of World Giants and had scored a match-winning half-century against India Maharajas. He is currently playing in the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 and had bagged the Player of the Match award for his three-wicket haul in the defending champions Multan Sultan’s tournament opener against Karachi Kings on Thursday.
