I am giving my son the same type of freedom that my father gave me: Sachin Tendulkar

Comparisons between various generations of the cricket game have always been going around the world, whether it be among the best modern-day batsmen and bowlers to the past propagation of legendary cricketers. But there is one huge personality who does not want to invite comparisons with the present generation.

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is one such person who wishes people to treat his son Arjun Tendulkar as other normal junior cricketers are being treated. Being the lad of the greatest legend of the game, people tend to have a lot of expectations from the 18-year old who is already looking to be a promising talent in the game.

Young Arjun is a left-arm fast bowler and has the ability to hit the deck at a variable pace. He has been seen several occasions bowling in the nets against some of the great senior batsmen during the training sessions. Tendulkar Jr also has the all-round talent as he has the ability to strike the ball hard as a middle-order batsman.

He should be treated as ‘Arjun’

The Master Blaster, who holds the record of scoring the most number of runs in international cricket and has many more milestones to his tally, wants his son to enjoy the same type of freedom which Sachin got from his father. The legendary cricketer emphasized that people should treat his son in a complacent manner and there should not be any comparisons with the greats. Sachin revealed that Arjun is working very hard on his game and is currently in the exploring stages of his game.

“He’s (Arjun) trying. Like my father gave me freedom, I’m giving him freedom. Whatever he wants to be in life, he has to give his best. No, he should be “Arjun”. He should be Arjun. There shouldn’t be any comparison,” said Sachin in a conversation with Times of India during an event.

His focus should be on the game: Sachin

There is an enormous amount of pressure when an individual is in the same field in which his father has achieved a lot over the years. But Tendulkar also wants his son to focus on his own game rather than the other things going around. The main focus should on your current target and let other people do their work in comparisons is what Sachin learnt from his Late father.

“Those things are there but his focus should be on the game and on his passion. That is what as a parent I would want. Comparisons would happen; if they want to do it, they will. But what I’ve learned from my father is that whatever work you’ve gone to do, keep your focus on that. Rest of the things will continue to happen,” added the legendary cricketer.
