Sourav Ganguly, the current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), once got an offer to act in movies. The correspondence came from renowned Indian film director, writer and lyricist, Late Rituporno Ghosh. However, the Prince of Kolkata declined the offer as he felt that he wasn’t ready to take up acting in movies.
Ganguly hosts a TV quiz show named ‘Dadagiri Unlimited’, which is being telecasted on Zee Bangla. In the show, a number of renowned personalities, from sports, films and other fraternities have participated. Despite being on TV, Ganguly was clear cut in saying that he didn’t want to ply his trade in movies.
Rituporno was a humble character and lived life on own terms: Sourav Ganguly
“Everyone knows that I won’t act in a movie. I am enjoying my stints in television shows. Apart from that, cricket and reality shows are there… but I am not ready to act in films,” Ganguly was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
“The director, who offered me to act in movies, was Rituporno Ghosh. I rejected the correspondence. One day, he called me and said ‘I want to make a movie and you would be my hero’. I almost said, ‘have you gone mad?’
“Rejecting the proposal, I said, ‘you better cook for me, I’m coming to your place for dinner’. I had a good relationship with the individual. At the time of Rituporno’s demise, I was in England. Rituporno was a humble character and lived life on own terms,” he added.
Back on May 30, 2013, Rituporno passed away at the age of 49 due to heart attack after suffering from pancreatitis. Chokher Bali, Dahan, and Hirer Angti among many others remain as Ghosh’s craftiest works. Ghosh was the winner of 12 national and some international awards.
As far as Ganguly is concerned, amidst his administrative stint in Indian cricket, he takes time out for advertising and reality shows. Ganguly said that while being at home, he wakes up late, reads the daily newspaper and talks to daughter Sana. He also remains as one of the greatest skippers in Indian cricket.
