'I am not your first Test wicket' - Kevin Pietersen hilariously congratulates MS Dhoni for an amazing career

Tributes started coming in no time after India stalwart MS Dhoni, on Saturday, announced his decision to bid adieu to international cricket. In an Instagram video, the former Indian skipper announced his departure from the biggest stage.

Dhoni’s fan-following isn’t limited to India and that was evident when tributes poured in for the World Cup-winning skipper from all parts of the globe. Many international cricketers like Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and James Neesham congratulated Mahi for a successful career.

Former England international Kevin Pietersen also heaped praise on Dhoni for having an illustrious international journey. However, Pietersen had a cheeky dig under his sleeve. Along with welcoming the Jharkhand stalwart to the retirement club, Pietersen pointed out that he wasn’t the first Test wicket of MS Dhoni.

“You are my great buddy, what an amazing career, one of the most magical careers. At the end of your career, there’s just one thing, ‘you never got me out, it was referred at the Lord’s and the continuous stick I get from you and your fans that I am your first Test wicket, you know, I know, it never happened, okay?

Now that you’re done, let’s just clear that it never happened, anyways, what an awesome career, congratulations and welcome to the club, we’re all out,” said Pietersen on Star Sports Cricket Connected.

The incident had happened during India’s tour of England in 2011. In the opening Test of the series, Dhoni got Pietersen caught behind the wickets but the batsman decided to review it straightaway. In the replays, it showed that the ball hadn’t hit the ball, saving Pietersen from becoming Dhoni’s first scalp in the longest format. Pietersen later went on to smash a double century and steer England to a dominant 474-run total.

The incident had also hogged the headlines when Dhoni and Pietersen were involved in a hilarious banter in 2017. Dhoni was keeping for Rising Pune Supergiants when Pietersen, part of the commentary team, told Manoj Tiwary, “Manoj, just tell MS that I am a better golfer than him,”

Dhoni was ready a hilarious reply as he responded by saying, “He’s still my first Test wicket.” The commentary box including Pietersen was left in splits after hearing Dhoni’s witty reply.
