This is surely the second coming for MS Dhoni. If 2018 was the worst year of his career, 2019 has begun on such an auspicious note that surely something special is coming from the legendary cricketer’s willow. His unbeaten 87-run knock in the decider won the game and the series for India and most importantly it came while batting at number four. However, the veteran is not making much fuss about batting at any particular position and is ready to play according to the team’s needs.
Dhoni had his best series in the last couple of years clearly and was fittingly awarded the Man of the Series for the first time since 2011. He amassed 193 runs in three outings at an exceptional average of 193 in the series and deserves all the accolades coming towards him. His form was a huge concern for India ahead of the World Cup and the man has quashed all the doubts now.
Why did he take the game deep?
MS Dhoni loves to take the game to the last over. Even in this game, he slowed down considerably after starting well but when asked about the same, the 37-year-old conceded that the pitch was extremely slow and hitting the shots at will wasn’t possible while also lauding Kedar Jadhav for batting well.
“It was a slow wicket, so it was a bit difficult to hit whenever you wanted to. It was important to take it to the end because some of their bowlers were on the verge of finishing their quota. No point going after the bowlers who were bowling well. Kedar did a great job in playing unorthodox shots and it is important to hit boundaries,” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.
Moreover, when asked whether he is happy to bat at number four in the World Cup, MS Dhoni was all smiles and said that he is happy to bat anywhere according to the team’s demands. “It is not about where you want to bat; I am happy to bat at any number and after playing for 14 years I can’t say that I don’t want to bat at number six and want to bat at four,” the best finisher in the world signed off in style.
