The tour of South Africa started on a terrible note for England star Ben Stokes. Just before Christmas, his father Ged had to be hospitalized after he fell seriously ill. Stokes senior had travelled to South Africa to watch the first Test match at Centurion. But even before the game started, he fell seriously ill and was taken to hospital in Johannesburg.
He had to be admitted in the intensive care unit. Fortunately, with the passage of time, his condition improved and he was eventually taken out of intensive care although he remained in the hospital for over a month while he recovered. And Ged finally came out of the hospital this week and left for his home to New Zealand.
A delighted Ben Stokes took to Instagram on Wednesday to confirm the news. Posting a picture of himself with his father and mother, the England superstar paid a glowing tribute to his brave father once again as well as his mother, writing: “37 days in hospital 3 surgery’s and he’s finally on his way home. You are strong and you are stubborn which is why you are still with us 🙏 I am so proud to be your son. And as for you mam, behind every man is a stronger women you are incredible ❤️❤️❤️ #GedandDeb”

While Ben Stokes was finding it hard to remain on the field while his father was in hospital, it did not stop the all-rounder from starring for his team once again. Ben Stokes impressed with both bat and ball as England won the Test series against South Africa. The visitors lost the first game of the series before bouncing back to win the next three Tests.
Ben Stokes delivered whenever England needed him in the series. The reigning ICC Player of the Year finished the series as the third leading run-scorer and also chipped in with eight wickets despite bowling less than 78 overs across the five matches.
