Nothing really went Team India’s way during the third Test against England at Headingley Stadium in Leeds. While the visiting team suffered batting collapses in both innings, the bowlers couldn’t do much either. As a result, England won the contest by an innings and 76 runs, leveling the five-match series 1-1. Although the defeat was undoubtedly humiliating, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is optimistic about making a comeback.
Following the conclusion of the game, Kohli admitted his side didn’t play brilliantly. The veteran also said that his players aren’t pleased with the way the game panned out. However, the 32-year-old strongly said that one dismal performance doesn’t make India a bad team. Kohli even guaranteed that this defeat won’t hamper the team’s morale and they would put up a better show in the next game.
You can’t become a bad team overnight: Virat Kohli
“When we have lost in the past, we have had sessions which were way below par, not up to the standard we can play and know how to play. So those are the areas which you realistically need to plug in when you lose a couple of wickets like this morning,” Kohli said following the conclusion of the game.
“How do you control the tide, how do you make sure that you’re solid enough or consistent enough in your thought process and decision making and find ways out of that situation. You can’t become a bad team overnight. If a win doesn’t guarantee you a win in the next game, even a loss doesn’t guarantee you a loss in the next game,” he added.
Meanwhile, the fourth Test gets underway on September 2 at the Kennington Oval in London. Kohli strongly believes that his side would do the homework and bounce back in the upcoming game.
“If what happens in one game guarantees you the same thing in the next game, we should have smashed England again, which didn’t happen. We like to be in this situation where people start coming at us with doubts and really start questioning the ability of this team, that is the situation we love best. I can guarantee you that we will not be demoralised by this loss,” the veteran asserted.
