'I couldn't hit six boundaries or six sixes in an over' - Virender Sehwag showers praise on Prithvi Shaw
Virender Sehwag concluded by stating that Prithvi Shaw should have scored a century, remained unbeaten and finished the job for his side.
Virender Sehwag was a batsman who was known for his ability to demolish any bowling attack that he faced. In his career that lasted more than a decade, Sehwag emerged as one of the most destructive batsmen that the game has ever seen.
And, Sehwag has now showered praise on Prithvi Shaw for the sensational assault that he dished out against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) outfit. Shaw smashed 6 consecutive boundaries off Shivam Mavi in the very first over of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) innings, and the Eoin Morgan led side never recovered from that assault, as Shaw went on to score a match-winning 82.
Virender Sehwag stated that smashing six boundaries off six deliveries would mean that every ball has to be played through the gap, which is not an easy task. The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ added that even though he has opened in his career, he has never managed to hit six boundaries or six sixes.
“Smashing six boundaries off all the six balls means playing every ball through the perfect gap, which is not easy. I’ve opened in my career and had thought of smashing all the six balls so many times. But I got a maximum of 18 or 20 odd runs. I couldn’t hit six boundaries or six sixes. For that you need to be perfect on your timing so that you can find those gaps,” said Virender Sehwag in a chat with Cricbuzz.
“Hats off to Prithvi Shaw for his fantastic innings,” says Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag further added that Prithvi Shaw was in excellent form with the willow and had the confidence of facing Shivam Mavi before, as both of them had played at the Under-19 level. Sehwag also revealed that even though he has batted against Ashish Nehra so many times, he has never been able to hit Nehra for six fours in a single over.
“Prithvi Shaw was excellent with the bat. He didn’t look as if he has come to play a cricket match. Or maybe he had the confidence of playing with Shivam Mavi in the U-19 team that he knew where the bowler would bowl exactly. I have batted against Ashish Nehra so many times in nets, domestic games but would never be able to hit him for six boundaries in an over. Hats off to Prithvi Shaw for his fantastic innings,” said Sehwag.
The former batting icon concluded by stating that Shaw should have scored a century, remained unbeaten and finished the job for his side.
“It would have been more exciting if he had got a hundred. He has gone through tough times already. But now, when the runs were coming, he must have scored a hundred or remained unbeaten and finished the chase,” concluded Sehwag.
