'I couldn’t understand what the experiment was' - Ajay Jadeja tears into Virat Kohli after India's dismal show in 1st T20I
Ajay Jadeja also said that Virender Sehwag and Cheteshwar Pujara would not be asked to change their styles of play.
The England side beat the Indian team comprehensively in the first T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After restricting the hosts for a modest 124/7, the visitors cantered home with 8 wickets and 4.3 overs to spare.
And now, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has made his thoughts known to the world regarding the team selection of Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Jadeja questioned whether there was any experimentation that was tried out by the Indian side as Kohli had promised ahead of the match.
Jadeja further stated that everybody knows the way the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson play. Adding that Rishabh Pant came into the side in place of Samson, Jadeja said that he could not figure out what the experiment was.
“Leave the result aside but what new experiment did you see from India in this match? You know how Shikhar Dhawan plays. KL Rahul too has been around for so long. Sanju Samson was playing in the middle-order and in place of him Rishabh Pant came in so that was the only change. So I couldn’t understand what the experiment was,” said Jadeja in a chat with Cricbuzz.
If your approach is aggressive, you will use the resources in that way: Ajay Jadeja
Dwelling further on the topic, Jadeja said that Kohli had clearly stated in the pre-match conference that Rohit Sharma will play the first T20I and India will come in with an aggressive approach. Jadeja added that he thought that India would try something different, and maybe ask Rishabh Pant to open the batting. He concluded by stating that Virender Sehwag and Cheteshwar Pujara would not be asked to change their styles of play.
“In the pre-match press conference, Virat Kohli clearly says Rohit Sharma will play and we will come with a new aggressive approach. I thought maybe Rishabh Pant will open, then Hardik Pandya and we will see a new aggressive approach. If your approach is aggressive then you will use the resource in that way. You won’t ask Cheteshwar Pujara to attack and Virender Sehwag to defend,” concluded Jadeja.
The second T20I between India and England will be played on 14th March 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
