New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson once again displayed his class with an unbeaten 73 runs knock against Bangladesh in the opening T20I of the three-match series at Napier. It was a wonderful knock which saw the skipper navigate his team towards the target set by Bangladesh.

But, while he was fighting out or his team, one interesting thing caught the eye. No it was not the drives which he played but the shirt which he was wearing.  The Black Caps leader was playing with a spelling mistake on the back of his shirt. The ‘i’ in his last name ‘Williamson’ was missing.

The amazing part is that Williamson knew about the typo error and could have come in with without a name and number but he did not have any problems walking with his No 22 jersey. A new one with the correct spelling is obviously expected to be made for Saturday’s second T20 at Mt Maunganui.

It was a negligible issue for Williamson who steered his team and chased down 142 to win the match with two overs and six-wicket win to spare at McLean Park which hosted a T20I for the first time its history.

“I did [realise] yeah – I had to wear a shirt and someone spelt my name wrong. I’m not sure who did that. It’s all good, it still felt the same,” he said with a laugh.

“Everyone makes a typo; it’s just that this was permanent and beamed around the world. And it wasn’t a rookie it was the best-known name in the team.”

In the past, there have been many occasion where the cricketers have to adjust with spelling errors. Most recently, Australia batsman Usman Khawaja found ‘Khwaja’ on his jersey after arriving at last year’s Indian Premier League with Pune.
