I don't care about the allegations or what will happen eventually: Mohammed Shami on spat with Hasin Jahan
"I have reached this stage after a lot of hard work."
Mohammed Shami had endured a terrible 2018 due to the feud with his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. In March last year, Jahan had sensationally alleged that her husband was having extra-marital affairs with several women. She even claimed the pacer was physically assaulting and threatening her over a period of almost two years. In order to back her claim, she had also posted several screenshots on social media which showed the chats Shami allegedly had with multiple women.
Apart from the allegations of domestic violence and extra-marital affair, Jahan had also alleged that Shami had taken money from a Pakistani woman named Alishba on the insistence of an England-based businessman, Mohammad Bhai. Due to the turn of events, the BCCI had withheld Shami’s central contract before clearing him after its anti-corruption unit found the bowler of doing nothing wrong.
But those allegations had taken a toll on his performance. In the last IPL, he had played just 4 games for Delhi Capitals, picking up 3 wickets while conceding more than 10 runs per over. He had also failed the yo-yo test and was thus ruled out of the one-off Test against Afghanistan. But things have gone in an upward direction since the tour of England. However, his wife has not stopped yet. Last month, he was charged by Kolkata Police in dowry and sexual harassment cases. According to reports, a chargesheet has been filed in Alipore police court against Shami under IPC 498A (dowry harassment) and 354A (sexual harassment).
The India star has now finally broken his silence on the marital spat, saying that he is ready to face any outcome. He said that the only things he cares about is cricket and is not at all bothered about the allegations. Shami also made it clear that his immediate goal is to win the IPL and the upcoming World Cup.
“I hope everything remains fine. Whatever is the outcome, I am ready to face it. Cricket life mein hai to sab kuch hai (cricket remains everything in life). That is the only thing I am bothered about. I don’t care about the allegations or what will happen eventually. Right now, I am not thinking even zero percent about it. I won’t let it affect me. My target is to win the IPL for Kings XI Punjab and then the World Cup for the country,” Mohammed Shami told Aaj Tak.
Unexplainable stress:
Shami further opened up on the tough times he had to go through after his wife’s charges against him. The right-arm pacer also explained how he managed to come through it due to his sheer zeal to play the game.
“I have reached this stage after a lot of hard work. The stress that I have gone through, the pressure that I have faced in the last 18 months is unexplainable. I was full of negative thoughts and cricket was the last thing on my mind. My problems had risen to an alarming level and the entire family was trapped in between,” said Shami.
“I always believed that a happy family life results in a good showing for the country. In the midst of all this controversy, while sitting with my family one day, I thought that the world knows me because of cricket so everything else should be kept aside. I told myself that come what may, I should resume playing cricket,” he added.
