'I don't know when I will get fit' - Bhuvneshwar Kumar not sure when he's going to be back

Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not given any timeline on his return to cricket after being diagnosed with sports hernia after the limited-overs series against West Indies. He had earlier missed a big part of the game due to a side strain after India’s tour to West Indies just after the 2019 World Cup. The role of NCA has been under scanner for not detecting the condition when he was recuperating with them.

The Uttar Pradesh fast bowler has struggled with injuries in the past few years, but this problem of his was not diagnosed by NCA as he was rehabbing with them for his side strain. He was given an all-clear for a comeback against Windies and the Indian team physio was the one who gave a correct diagnosis of sports hernia during the series. The fast bowler, however, didn’t blame the NCA for their blunder in an interview.

The 29-year-old is expected to be out for an indefinite amount of time and will definitely miss the New Zealand tour. His participation in the T20 World Cup in Australia is also not clear at the moment, but the bowler is not thinking about that for now. “World T20 is still good nine months away. I am not thinking about that. The first thing is getting fit and I don’t know when I will get fit,” Bhuvneshwar was quoted as saying by India Today.

On NCA not being able to detect his sports hernia, the Meerut-born bowler also added, “NCA must have tried their best but I don’t know what went wrong and why they couldn’t diagnose. Still I am not the right person to comment on that as it might say something else and BCCI will come up with something else.”

“There is no surety of surgery, but generally, the standard procedure in case of sports hernia is surgery. But we still need to take an appointment and I am not sure where it’s going to be. But we are trying to get it as soon as possible. Till I consult a doctor, can’t say when will be the comeback as it will depend on the diagnosis and treatment plan,” he said when asked about the recovery process.

He mentioned that though he wanted to be back at the earliest, he is leaving the things in the hands of experts and doctors and he will follow whatever they say. Kumar said that he is currently enjoying time with his family and is happy sharing smaller moments with his loved ones.
