'I don't see it happening' - Zaheer Abbas on Shoaib Akhtar's proposal for India-Pakistan fund-raising ODI series

Earlier, Kapil Dev also denied any possibility of India playing against Pakistan in an ODI series.

Shoaib Akhtar, former Pakistan suggested an idea of organizing a three-match ODI series in order to raise funds in the fight against Coronavirus. Afterwards, Kapil Dev slammed, the 48-year-old for giving such an idea under stern conditions. Dev openly denied any possibility of playing a cricket match in the near future. Zaheer Abbas, the former batsman from Pakistan also echoed in the same voice saying that there are no chances of these two neighbouring countries playing together in a cricket match.

Rawalpindi Express came out saying that the whole world is going through crises after Coronavirus pandemic came into the picture. So, he proposed an idea of organizing a cricketing series between India and Pakistan. The former player also suggested that the games can be organized in Dubai as a neutral venue for both the teams. He also suggested that all the funds raised from the series will be utilised in the battle against the novel virus.

Zaheer Abbas denies the possibility of series between India and Pakistan

Taking of note of Shoaib’s suggestion Zaheer Abbas has opened up saying that it is very difficult. He added that the board is trying since long but they didn’t get any success over the same. The chances are quite slim of series happening between the two countries in the near future, “I think it is very difficult. We have been trying for long but I don’t see it happening in the near future,” Abbas said as quoted by India Today.

Abbas that the sporting activities can come down to its normal track after COVID-19 transmission comes under control. Moreover, the authorities should also come onto a conclusion after taking a survey of the conditions. And, if they have no problem, then the event can be organized. However, at the moment nothing much can be said over it.

“It depends on how the situation unfolds. At some point of time, sporting activities have to be resumed, but before that life should come back on track. If all the concerned authorities are satisfied, they can go ahead with the events, but nothing can be said as of now,” added Zaheer Abbas.
