The Pakistan side has endured a horrible Test series in New Zealand thus far. In the first Test against the Kiwis, the visitors were beaten by 101 runs. And now, in the ongoing second Test, the side is staring down the barrel and is trailing the Black Caps’ first innings total by 354 runs. It looks as if it would be difficult for the Pakistan side to avoid an innings defeat from here on.
The ‘Men in Green’ were also beaten 1-2 in the T20I series that preceded the Tests against the Black Caps. Apart from the players, another man who has received a lot of flak is a former cricketer and current Head Coach of the Pakistan side, Misbah-ul-Haq. And, another cricketer-turned coach, Aaqib Javed has some really harsh words for Misbah.
Javed is the Head Coach of the Lahore Qalanders, the side that finished third in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League. Aaqib has torn into Misbah, and stated that even a school will not provide a job to Misbah. He also said that a coach should always be with the team. He further urged Wasim Khan, the chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take care of the administrative issues that currently plague the PCB.
“Looking at Misbah’s coaching, I don’t think even a school will give him a job. Professional coaches should be with the team, only then the situation will improve. Wasim Khan and company don’t take into account the ground realities, which is why there are many administrative issues within the PCB,” said Javed when he interacted with the reporters in Lahore.
Our cricket will suffer the same fate as hockey: Aaqib Javed
Javed also added that bowling coach Waqar Younis and Misbah have no prior coaching experience and the people who appointed them as coaches should be held accountable.
“Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq had no coaching experience but they were still given the roles with the national side. People who took this decision should be held accountable.”
He also added that if further steps are not taken, then cricket in the country will go down, just like how hockey has. Javed also made it clear that he will not take up the role of Head Coach of the ‘Men in Green’ as there is no respect for individuals in the system.
“I will never coach the Pakistan team because there is lack of respect for individuals in the current PCB system. If the board does not take steps for the betterment of Pakistan cricket, our cricket will suffer the same fate as hockey,” he concluded.
