Shane Watson was one of the main guys for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the franchise won their third IPL title in 2018. The right-handed Australian opener hit two centuries last year with one of them coming in the grand final of the tournament against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The burly all-rounder as brilliantly managed by the CSK team management as he was carrying niggles in his hamstring and bowled rarely in the tournament. In IPL 2019, Watson started off with a 10-ball duck in the first game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram stadium on March 23.
But he made a good comeback in the second match against Delhi Capitals. After keeping Capitals to 147 in 20 overs, CSK chased down the total with ease with Watson hammering a 26-ball 44 with 4 fours and 3 sixes.
Watson speaks about his bowling
Shane Watson may have missed his fifty by six runs, but the innings was impactful enough to earn him the Man of the Match award. He felt like he was playing on the Chennai wicket and speaking at the post-match ceremony, Watson was quoted saying, “It was a little better than Chennai, the wicket (laughs). It was a bit slow, so it was nice to get a few out of the middle.”
The all-rounder also mentioned that he will be concentrating on his batting in this season and won’t be bowling much. This is because he had suffered an injury during his time in the Big Bash League in Australia and hence has been avoiding bowling as such.
“I don’t think I will bowl much. I got a calf injury leading up to the Big Bash. So I’m just trying to be fit enough for my batting. It was great to be able to reconnect with the Chennai guys again so it’s great to be here again,” the Aussie further added.
