The IPL mega auction is all set to take place before the commencement of the new season and teams have been given the window till November 30 to submit their four retentions. Talking in terms of Chennai Super Kings, it has been reported that legendary skipper MS Dhoni has been retained by the franchise and will be seen in the next season.
During the end of IPL 2021, Dhoni himself added that is yet not done and it was clear to fans that he will be seen donning yellow colours again. Earlier, MS had already spoken of playing his farewell IPL game in Chennai. He said, “So hopefully, my last T20, it will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year, or in five years’ time, we don’t really know.”
However, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull stated that MS might not play the entire IPL 2022 season and Faf du Plessis might take over from between only. After Dhoni’s farewell game in Chennai, he might hand over to Du Plessis, mulled the commentator.
Faf du Plessis will take over from MS Dhoni, says Doull
“When MS Dhoni decides to play his final game, Faf du Plessis will take over the captaincy in April-May next year. That’s my thinking and I don’t think MS Dhoni will play the full season. Faf du Plessis will take over from him. But there will be a home game where they will announce it will be MSD’s last game and Faf will take over from there,” Simon Doull told Star Sports.
Moving further in the discussion, Doull stated his four picks which CSK should retain ahead of the mega auction. He added that Dhoni stands to be the primary name and apart from his, CSK might pick Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Their final and overseas pick might be Faf du Plessis.
“Ravindra Jadeja, he is Mr Chennai as well. He has got to be retained. What we saw from Ruturaj Gaikwad, I think he must be retained. You don’t want to let him go anywhere and the combination at the top of the order between him and Faf du Plessis,” Doull added.
