I don’t think Pakistan have the ability to beat this Indian team: Harbhajan Singh
Misbah-ul-Haq also agreed with Bhajji but felt anything can happen in World Cups.
Amidst the tension across the borders between the two countries, India and Pakistan will lock horns in the ongoing World Cup 2019 on June 16. Only a couple of months ago, there were doubts about the game going ahead as many believed that India should boycott their neighbours from playing even in the mega event after Pulwama attack. If the World Cup record is concerned, the Men in Blue have always beaten their arch-rivals and Harbhajan Singh believes that the trend will continue even this time.
Moreover, the Indian off-spinner went on to claim that India’s clash with England will be huge and not India vs Pakistan as the former has always had a lid over the Men in Green. Going by the current form as well, India look favourites to win the much-awaited encounter. The Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side endured a worst possible start to their campaign as they were skittled out for just 105 runs by the Windies.
India have 11 match-winners
While speaking at the India Today Salaam Cricket event, Harbhajan Singh was brutally honest when asked about the marquee clash. He also claimed that Pakistan do not have the ability to beat India as the Virat Kohli-led side has a lot of match-winners in their line-up.
“India vs Pakistan is not as big as India vs England. Maybe from the media perspective, India vs Pakistan is more hyped up. But from a cricketing aspect, India vs England is more important. India can beat this Pakistan team 9 and a half times out of 10 times. Pakistan do not have the kind of players. Favourites tags are with India and England.
“India have 11 match-winners and I don’t think Pakistan have the ability to beat this Indian team. We are more experienced and we have a lot of big players,” he said.
The former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq was also involved in the discussion as he admitted that India might prove to be too strong for Pakistan. However, he didn’t forget to caution everyone saying that anything can happen on the match day.
“Logically, Bhajji is right but Pakistan is a dangerous team. In cricket, you cannot say anything. This Pakistan team is capable. There was a collapse in the last match. India have a better chance. As he said, India and England are the two favourites. Given the rivalry, intensity… You never know what can happen in World Cups. Pakistan were strong in the 1990s yet India would win every time in World Cups,” Misbah said.
