Sri Lanka is battling a lost cause in the ongoing bilateral series with India. After getting whitewashed in the three-match Test series, the island nations in on the verge of another major loss after losing first two matches of the 5 ODIs. However, Sri Lanka‘s stand-in captain Chamara Kapugedera said that he believes that they can still win a game in the ongoing series.

The 30-year-old has denied that the team was low on confidence. Instead, he said the squad is working extremely hard and have got a new-found belief for the first time in the ongoing series. And he believes the taste of victory against the Indians will accentuate their zeal to win more matches.

Unheralded spinner Akila Dananjaya has also infused life into the series for the island nations with impeccable figures of  (6/48 in 9 overs) in the previous ODI. However, with MS Dhoni‘s bagful of experience and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar’s half century, the visitors successfully anchored a tricky chase, despite trailing at 131 for 7 at one point.

Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal unsure for 3rd ODI

Lauding the Sri Lankan team, the newly elected captain said, “I don’t think we are struggling. I think there is a good atmosphere in the team. The way we played we are having lot of confidence. Everyone is together and hopefully we can pull off one win. After the last game we believe that we can win. We played really well.”

The right-handed middle order batsman will lead Sri Lanka in the next two ODIs. The move comes as a surprise, considering the fact that Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal is also in the squad. Chandimal had not been picked initially and overlooking him could mean that it isn’t absolutely that he would feature in Sunday’s game. Kapugedera, however, denied any such talks.
