Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi is currently plying his trade for the Dhaka Dynamites in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Afridi already has had his moment of glory in the tournament in one of the fixtures and is keen on replicating match-winning performances in the fixtures to follow.
Recently, the players of the Dhaka franchise visited the historical Lalbag Fort. Shahid Afridi was also a part of the team visit. The players promoted the initiative of ‘goli cricket’ – an initiative aimed at promoting street cricket in the county. The Dhaka franchise visit was sponsored by the Omera LP Gas. During the visit, the players also played a five over match against the organisers.
Shakib Al Hasan’s triple six saw the Dhaka Dynamites win the match. Speaking at the event, Shahid Afridi conceded that he has always enjoyed playing street cricket. He noted that almost all cricketers started their cricket by playing this form of the game.
“Almost every cricketer started their cricket with such (street cricket) type of game. I think I must give credit to Dhaka Dynamites owners, CEO, management and coaches for bringing the whole team here to attract each and everyone. I think, it’s a very good initiative and that we should continue it. Obviously, it’s not about just cricket, we have a social life and the community we have, whereby we have a lot of fans. They want to see their cricketers one to one. So, I am very happy,” quoted Shahid Afridi.
Bangladesh – the second home
Speaking further on his stay in Bangladesh, Afridi mentioned that he loves coming to Bangladesh. The love that he gets from the fans is always amazing. Moreover, the atmosphere and the food in the country is similar to that in Pakistan. He loves coming and playing in Bangladesh. Speaking about the historical monument, Shahid Afridi expressed his happiness on being a part of the visit.
“I always enjoy Bangladesh. It’s my second home. I always enjoy playing cricket here. I always get good response, respect and love from the people here. That’s why I also love to play here and come here every year to play cricket. Foods are very similar like Pakistani food. There is no difference,” quoted the former cricketer.
“It’s very good to be here. Lalbag Fort is a historical place as well. I think it’s good not only for me but also for the team to move around and see the Dhaka city. It’s an opportunity to attract the community,” he added further.
