I felt it was my day, recalls Yuvraj Singh on hitting Stuart Broad for six sixes
Yuvraj Singh scored the fastest T20I fifty on that day against England. He reached his half-century in just 12 balls.
It has been more than 10 years since Indian middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh smashed England pacer Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over, but the buzz never seems like settling down. It is still one of the most historic moments in Indian cricket. India not only won that particular match but went on to win the tournament by beating Pakistan in the finals.
The man of the series of the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj is currently working hard on his game in a bid to make a comeback into the national side. The southpaw last featured for India during the ODI series against West Indies. During a recent event organised by Mercedes Benz to support Laureus, Yuvraj recalled the iconic moment and said that pressure was on Broad and he just backed his instincts as he felt it was his day.
Pressure was on Broad, says Yuvraj
“The pressure was on him [Stuart Broad] obviously on the sixth ball. I felt it was my day and I knew that the bowler is going to make a mistake and I am going to pounce on it, because anything which I hit was going off the middle of the bat,” said Yuvraj. as reported by PTI. He also recalled of once being hit for five consecutive sixes in an over by Dimitri Mascarenhas the very same year a few months back, and said that he was happy that he gave something back to the English bowlers. “I remember getting hit for five sixes against England but very few people remember that, so I was happy to give it back,” he concluded.
The left-handed batsman has been named the vice-captain of the Punjab team for the Ranji Trophy this year. Yuvraj missed out on playing the Ranji opener against Himachal Pradesh, as he was in Bangalore to take part in a fitness test.
