I get dumbstruck watching Rohit Sharma, just how cricketers feel after seeing Sachin Tendulkar: KL Rahul

KL Rahul is one of the best T20 players in the country right now. In recent times, he has shouldered a lot of responsibility for the Indian team. He has opened the innings in both T20Is and ODIs. He has batted at No.4 and in the middle order. He has also kept wickets for the Indian in the limited-overs format.

However, there are still talks about whether he is India’s first-choice T20I opener. In a recent interaction, Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma had said that Rahul is the first choice for the management in the T20Is while he and Shikhar Dhawan are fighting for the second.

In an interview with Boria Majumdar for India Today, Rahul was told about this. After listening to this comment, the Karnataka batsman expressed his gratitude for Rohit by praising him. He explained that he is sometimes dumbstruck while watching Sharma bat.

“Humbled by Rohit’s words, I have been a huge fan of his batting and I have played with him for a few years now but he is someone who is in the team, how do I say, like some cricketers get dumbstruck after watching Sachin Tendulkar, they don’t know what to say. When I am with Rohit off the field I have still not been able to get through,” said 28-year-old Rahul.

Rahul and Rohit opened the innings for India in most matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. While Sharma was in the form of his life, Rahul was slowly chunking runs during the tournament. The pair was the most successful opening partnership in the tournament. After the World Cup, whenever they have got an opportunity to bat together, the duo has notched up vital scores.

Talking further about Rohit Sharma, Rahul said he has always had the backing from him. The wicketkeeper-batsman explained how such thing impacts in a good way on a youngster like him.

“But he is someone in the team who has given me that sense that he has a lot of faith in me and as a senior player I have seen that he has backed me and stood by me on a lot of instances. When senior players feel like there is a guy who can take responsibility and can be amongst one of the senior players that give a young player or a player who has not played consistently for the country a lot of confidence,” Rahul added.
