Team India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 after a wait of 24 years. The country last celebrated such a laurel was in 1983, India’s maiden World Cup Trophy. The win in 2007 was special. Apart from the long wait, it also proved, the brilliance of MS Dhoni as a captain. Dhoni took over a depleted and underperforming side, that was knocked out from the group stage of the 50 over World Cup in West Indies a few months back.

Coming in as the dark horses in the tournament, the young side led by an enigmatic Dhoni took major strides to emphasize India’s dominion on world cricket. If we recount, one of India’s most memorable encounters was against England in their group stage fixture. And if we delve into the match, all we hear are the echoes of the six sixes Yuvraj Singh hit to register the fastest half century in T20I cricket which stands to date.

In an interview with Mirror, Yuvraj recalled that magical night. When asked if the thought of hitting six sixes ever crossed his mind, the left-hander had something interesting to say. “My father never wanted me to hit the ball in the air and always wanted me to play down the ground. I had no plans to hit six sixes, I was lucky all the balls were (in my) area and I was able to connect,” Yuvi said.

Flintoff made fun of Yuvraj’s shots

While the left-hander was massacring the English bowlers, it was Dhoni from the other end who was feeding him motivation. Yuvraj remembers all ‘captain cool’ said to him prior to the over was “swing as hard as you can.” The duo then did an emphatic fist bump to celebrate the cause, especially after the banter between Andrew Flintoff and Yuvi before the over.

They were involved in a verbal confrontation after the Englishman made fun of Yuvraj’s shots. Guess Yuvi just knew how to serve the bowlers and especially Flintoff right!
