I have changed my own body mechanics to emulate Kapil Dev in ’83, says Ranveer Singh

India, under Kapil Dev’s inspired leadership, won the World Cup for the first time back in 1983 when literally nobody expected. They defeated the defending and two-time champions Windies in the final to rise to the glory and the stories inside the dressing room are bring heard ever since then. The movie stating the success in the World Cup is currently being shot with the superstar Ranveer Singh taking up the role of the skipper Kapil Dev.
The movie is being directed by Kabir Khan and is named ’83. It will depict the story of the Indian team at the World Cup and all are excited about Ranveer Singh emulating Kapil Dev, India’s best all-rounder ever, in it. No wonder, the man himself, Ranveer, is also excited about the role and opened up on how he is trying to match Kapil Devi during the shooting.
Speaking on the sidelines of India Today’s Salaam Cricket 2019, the Bollywood superstar admitted that it is very tough to emulate the former India cricketer. Kapil was known for his signature run-up which ended with a jump and used to bowl out-swingers to fox the batsmen.
His body mechanics are very unique
Talking about the same, Ranveer Singh cleared that it is not at all easy to emulate Kapil Dev. The actor also went on inform that he has changed his own body to match Kapil. “Mushkil hai. There’s a lot of neck and back in it. His body mechanics are very unique to him. Only his body, the way it is genetically structured, can execute that action. It is very tough to emulate. But I have been at it. I have changed my own body mechanics around to be able to do it,” Ranveer said.
Ranveer Singh also shared his experience about playing at the iconic Lord’s where India won the World Cup final and the pictures of Kapil Dev holding still give goosebumps to every fan. “This is the Mecca of cricket. Lords mein aana matlab yeh hoti hai life. Aap subah utho, Lords aao aur 3-4 ghante batting, bowling aur fielding karo, legends ko milo (Coming to Lord’s means this is the life – Wake up, Come to Lord’s, bat, bowl and field for 3-4 hours, meet the legends). Overall, this entire experience has been so rewarding and joyous,” Ranveer Singh further added.
