India is under lockdown for more than five months now owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to postpone all the tournaments and series including the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was slated to begin from March 29. As a result, all the Indian cricketers were confined in their homes away from the match field.
Though these difficult times refrained the players from indulging in any outdoor training, many took this as an opportunity to work on their physical fitness while being at the comfort of their house. Cricketers like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya often shared clips of them practicing in their home gyms to maintain their body shapes.
The new addition to this list is the Indian batsman Mandeep Singh. Making proper use of the lockdown, Mandeep improved his body physique by keeping a check on his diet and training. The cricketer recently shared his pictures on his social media flaunting his solid physique. The transformation of the batsman left the fans stunned as they showered praises on him for his dedication and hardwork.
I don’t take any supplements: Mandeep Singh
Recalling his experience, the 28-year-old old wrote instead of giving up on food completely, he increased his intake of energy giving food like desi cow milk, desi ghee, makhan and whole-wheat. Also, he refrained himself from consuming non-veg or other fatty food.
Mandeep’s post read, “I know a lot of cricketers or people who give up milk, wheat etc for a good body. I just wanted to tell my experience. In the past 4 months during lockdown, almost everyday I have had desi cow milk, desi ghee, makhan and whole-wheat but moderation is imp. I don’t take any supplements, only protein powder daily.”
“I’m a non veg lover, but during these past few months I’ve only been eating non-veg once a week. I personally believe that my body is in the best shape it’s been in for a while. I eat “cheat meals” 2-3 times a week especially when I crave them because it’s so important for our minds to be in a good space. As much as a healthy body is important, a healthy mind is also vital. And no matter what diet you follow, you have to train hard. I have been trying to follow a diet that won’t just make me look strong, but will make me strong from within like eating local food. #eatlocalthinkglobal #desi” it added.
The Punjab stalwart will be again seen in action from September as he will join the Kings XI Punjab camp for this year’s edition of the cash-rich league. The cricket board had decided to go ahead with the much-awaited 13th edition of the T20 league from September 19 to November 10 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
Till now, the right-handed batsman has represented India in just three T20 Internationals, scoring 87 runs. He would be looking forward to making a comeback in the Indian team after a span of three years by making a mark through his performance in the Indian league.
