The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) commenced on February 20 with a match against Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was forced to suspend the tournament after hosting just 14 matches due to a breach in the bio bubble and increasing Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the remaining match of PSL 2021 will now be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the first week of June, 2021. PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators will be hoping to start fresh in the Abu Dhabi leg as they had a torrid time in Karachi.
The franchise lost four matches on the trot and are languishing at the last position on the points table with just one victory from five games. Quetta Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed hopes that South Africa’s swashbuckling batsman Faf du Plessis will continue his blistering IPL from in PSL too.
In the now-suspended IPL 2021, Du Plessis plied his trade for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and was in brilliant form. The 36-year-old smashed a stunning 320 runs in just seven matches and was the third-highest run-getter in the league. Thus, Sarfaraz wants the former South Africa captain to bring his form in PSL 2021 and produce match-winning performances for the Gladiators.
The conditions in Abu Dhabi will be different: Sarfaraz Ahmed
“Faf Du Plessis is a world-class player and overall his performance has been outstanding. I’m hopeful about the fact that the way he has maintained his form in the IPL, he will bring that form here and win matches for Quetta,” Sarfaraz Ahmed said as quoted by Cricwick.
Further in the interaction, the former Pakistan skipper detailed his opinion on the pitches of Abu Dhabi. Ahmed believes that it will be tough for the teams to adapt to the Abu Dhabi conditions as in UAE, the spinners gets a lot of assistance.
“The conditions in Abu Dhabi will be different and I think this tournament is on the basis of a single league. The players have changed as well so it will be a different tournament and will be tough for sides to adjust as we are going from Pakistan to Abu Dhabi. In Pakistan, the tracks are very good though, in the UAE, spinners get assistance. So the sides will have to change their strategy and come up with a good plan,” Sarfaraz signed off.
