'I hope that's enough masala' - Mayank Agarwal takes a hilarious dig at journalists
After the day, Agarwal attended the press-conference and just like doing well on the field, he did well in front of the journalists too.
India opener Mayank Agarwal further enhanced his reputation with a sizzling double century against South Africa in the ongoing first Test. Agarwal made his debut in Melbourne in December last year and made an instant impression. In the two Tests he played in Australia, he scored fifty in both of them. On the recent tour of West Indies too, he scored another fifty.
He finally scored his maiden Test hundred on Thursday while playing in Vizag. The right-handed batsman played a chanceless knock as he went on to score a doubleton. He was eventually out for 215. Prior to his dismissal, he also shared a huge 317-run stand with fellow opener Rohit Sharma who scored 176. In the process, the duo became the third Indian opening pair to share a partnership of 300 or more in Tests.
Mayank’s knock, nonetheless, put India in a commanding position in the game. The hosts declared their innings after piling up 502 for 7 before bowlers made their mark. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja spun a web around the Proteas. By the time day two ended, South Africa were reeling at 39 for 3 with Ashwin taking 2 wickets and Jadeja the other one.
After the day, Agarwal attended the press-conference and just like doing well on the field, he did well in front of the journalists too. The Karnataka stalwart spoke about his knock, the team and other topics before ending the media session on a hilarious note. Taking a hilarious dig at journalists’ penchant of spicing up stories, Agarwal said, “Thank You, I hope that’s enough masala (spice)”, before walking out.
Agarwal cherishes partnership
Mayank Agarwal spoke about his mammoth 317-run stand with Rohit. The opener said that he and Rohit managed to manipulate the field and were trying to find scoring options. He further said that playing alongside Rohit was a great experience. It should be noted that this is the first time Agarwal and Rohit opened the batting together.
“It was good that we were able to manipulate the field. We just tried to find more ways of scoring the maximum runs. For him, to get such a big score is tremendous. We all really enjoyed the way he played and paced his innings. It was great playing alongside him. Getting a 300-run partnership feels great,” Agarwal said.
