There has been no looking back for Rohit Sharma ever since he donned the opener’s hat of Team India. Rohit’s career reached new heights in this new role and to top it off, the swashbuckling batsman even tasted success as the skipper of his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.

Over the years, Rohit has etched his name as one of the most successful batsmen of the modern era. Be his humongous sixes or impeccable timing, Rohit has left no stones unturned in establishing himself as an indispensable part of Team India.

Rohit has donned the Indian jersey in 224 ODIs, 108 T20Is, and 32 Tests so far, where he has gathered 14029 runs across all three formats. He also has three double tons under his name in One-day Internationals.

The previous year was undoubtedly a special one for the right-hander. He delivered an exemplary performance in the World Cup and followed it up by performing against Test series against South Africa. Rohit was the highest run-scorer in the 2019 World Cup with an average of 81.00 from just nine matches. He even gathered five tons in the showpiece event and became the first batsman to do so.

Rohit Sharma was set to lead Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020

The world has been in awe of the ‘Hitman’ ever since he hit the purple patch. Many cricketers have heaped praise over Rohit’s batting expeditions including his flawless pull shot. Former South Africa international JP Duminy also expressed his fondness for Rohit during a recent Instagram Live session.

Duminy picked Rohit as his favourite batsman while speaking to former Zimbabwe pacer Pommie Mbangwa in the Live session. “Rohit Sharma is my favourite batsman, I like his pick-up pull shot,” Duminy told Mbangwa during the chat.

Had the IPL 2020 commenced from March 29 this year, Rohit would’ve been leading Mumbai Indians in the tournament. However, the cash-rich league was postponed in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and it is anticipated to be hosted in the latter part of the year.

Rohit is currently the most successful skipper in the history of the IPL, having led the Mumbai franchise to four titles. Duminy was also a part of MI when he was snapped up by the franchise in 2009. The left-hander was again bought by MI for the 2018 season and was later released ahead of the 2019 IPL auction.
