‘I owe my success to him’ – Shahid Afridi showers praises on Wasim Akram after his induction into PCB Hall of Fame

Pakistan bowling great Wasim Akram was inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame this year. And, after Akram’s induction, another legend of the Pakistan side, Shahid Afridi has showered praises on Akram.

Afridi stated that Akram’s services have been recognized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Adding that Akram was one of his heroes, Afridi said that he considers it an honour to have played with Akram. Afridi also said that he owes his success to Akram, and lauded the PCB for recognizing the services offered by Akram to Pakistan cricket.

“This is an incredible recognition & award for an incredible legend! Wasim Akram was one of my heroes and it was an honour playing with him. I owe so much of my success as a cricketer to Wasim Bhai. Good job PCB in recognising the services of an all-time great,” tweeted Shahid Afridi.

Wasim Akram is the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in Tests and ODIs

Wasim Akram is the highest wicket-taker for the Pakistan side in both Test and ODI cricket. In a stellar international career that spanned almost 2 decades, the left arm bowling great scalped 414 wickets in Tests and 502 wickets in the ODI format of the game.

While the current 55-year-old represented the Pakistan side in 104 Tests, he also featured in a staggering 356 ODI matches for the Pakistan team as well. Akram was also a part of the Pakistan side that won the fifty over World Cup in the year 1992.

In fact, Akram won the Player of the Match award in the final of the 1992 World Cup for scoring a quick 18-ball 33 and taking 3 wickets, and helping Pakistan defeat England by 22 runs in the summit clash of the competition. Akram played his last international match for the Pakistan side in the year 2003.
