Injuries are a part and parcel of any sport. When a sportsman gives his best to ensure that his country comes out on top, the body might sometimes take a beating. And, on 23rd March 2021, Shreyas Iyer’s dive in a bid to stop the ball from going past him in the first ODI against England resulted in him dislocating his shoulder.

India thrash England in the first ODI
The Indian side drew first blood in the first ODI and beat Eoin Morgan and his men by 66 runs. It was a collective team effort from the Indian team that allowed them to vanquish the visitors. Virat Kohli and his men batted first and posted a challenging total of 317 runs on the board.
Even though no Indian batsman could score a century, as many as four willow wielders scored the fifties to help the hosts go past the 300-run mark. While Shikhar Dhawan held the innings together and scored a classy 106 ball 98, Virat Kohli was at his fluent best and scored a sedate 56 off 60 deliveries. KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya then provided the much-needed impetus for the Indian side.
KL Rahul plundered a brisk 62* off just 43 deliveries, and Krunal Pandya blazed his way to a pulsating 58* at a strike rate of 187.10. On the bowling front, the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur scalped 7 wickets between them as India came out on top in the first ODI. As far as Iyer is concerned, the right-hander could only score 6 runs before he holed out to deep cover.
The Delhi Capitals’ side will definitely miss their skipper in the 14th IPL edition. Iyer was the second-highest run-scorer for the Delhi outfit in the 2020 IPL season and plundered 519 runs. The Delhi outfit will have to hand over the mantle of captaincy to somebody else in the absence of Iyer.
