I think India would perhaps be the most confident they've been in Australia: Faf du Plessis

His team beat Australia 3-1 this year in a Test series in their own backyard and had done the same in 2016 by a 2-1 margin. Faf du Plessis probably knows it better than others on how to win a Test series down under. The South African skipper like most others has also presented his perspective on who he thinks will come out on top in Australia vs India four-match Test series.

He thinks Virat Kohli & Co. will sense an opportunity this time, it is much bigger than it ever was. For Faf it isn’t just the fact that Australia are without Steve Smith and David Warner and look a half-baked batting side but also because India have landed with a pace attack that can challenge the hosts and emerge on top.

India would be most confident

“I think India would perhaps be the most confident they’ve been coming here because they would see there’s an opportunity – (firstly) with the two main batters being out of the (Australia) side,” du Plessis was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“But also for the first time, I think India has a pace attack to challenge teams around the world, or away from their own conditions.

The Indian teams of the past relied heavily on their spin bowlers and at home rolled out rank turners fielding as many as three or four spinners in a game and bowl oppositions out with just that. However, this Indian team is pace heavy and have four seamers who can bowl 140kmph and faster almost all day. Which in Faf’s view makes India a tougher side now.

“They are extremely tough to beat at home because their pitches spin square and they’ve got unbelievable spinners, and a lot of them, so they can play three or four spinners and just bowl spin all day.

“But what I find with them now is, for the first time, they’ve got three or four seamers in their squad that can bowl 140 (kph)-plus and are very good bowlers,” he added.

“Obviously when you come to conditions like South Africa, Australia, England, you need pace bowlers and in the past they might have had one or two, but now they’ve got three or four.

“It’s important, though, that their seam bowlers need to be fit. In England, they had two of those seam bowlers who were injured so I think if that happened, then Australia would be massive favourites.

“But if they come with a fully fit pace attack, I think it will be a fifty-fifty split,” the South African mentioned.

Series goes to Australia

He thinks the Indian skipper Virat Kohli will score runs but still isn’t convinced enough to predict that they will win the series.

“It’s going to be an interesting Test series, and if Virat (Kohli) scores runs – and we know Virat always scores runs – India will do well. But I’d probably go with Australia, just in terms of history against India,” Faf stated.
