Sri Lankan spin bowling legend Muttiah Muralitharan has predicted a great future for the Indian Cricket Team under coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli. He feels that tactical acumen of Kumble combined with the leadership skills of skipper Kohli will take India to greater heights.
India has 13 Tests lined up to be played at home starting with the Test series against New Zealand. After facing the Black Caps, India will then prepare to host Australia and England. Murali feels that the home side will benefit from Kumble’s vast knowledge about these conditions and will most likely dominate all three nations.
“Kumble is clever and knows the conditions inside out. He knows exactly what to do. I think Indian team will do well in Kumble’s guidance and definitely have a very good chance of winning the series not only against New Zealand but also against England and Australia,” Muralitharan told media during his stint with Cricket Association of Bengal’s Vision 2020 programme to groom youngsters.
“Kohli has been doing well and India is winning matches abroad. That’s what you want. I think India have a big advantage. Their spinners are better while the batters know the conditions well,” he added.
Murali is currently in India after being roped in by the Cricket Association of Bengal as its spin consultant for one-and-half years. Speaking about the upcoming domestic season, he says Ranji matches at neutral venues was a welcome change.
“It gives you a chance to learn more about different venues, wicket so that they can apply themselves in a better way.”
Talking about Bengal’s prospects, he said, “Pragyan Ojha is heading the spin attack and there are many good pacers, so they have a good chance.”
