Michael Clarke and Kyly Clarke, in February, announced their decision to separate after staying in the wedlock for as many as seven years. Clarke is now dating Pip Edwards, who had separated from Dan Single back in 2008.
The former Australia skipper recently revealed that he’s still friends with Kyly and they still have a great relationship. Both have always prioritised their daughter and that remains a vital connect between Clarke and Kyly. The couple has one daughter, born in 2015.
Both of us will always prioritise our daughter: Michael Clarke
“I think I’m extremely lucky to have been able to go through a separation with the mother of my child and us still be great friends,” Clarke said on KISS 1065’s Kyle and Jackie O Show. “I actually think Kyly and my friendship now is as strong as it’s ever been. We still talk daily and I think you’ve heard Kyly say as well both of us will always prioritise our daughter and a big part of that is a friendship between mum and dad.
It’s probably easier to do when your child’s so young but I would hope that’s mine and Kyly’s relationship forever. That our daughter is No. 1, we keep our friendship strong and we do what’s best for her. There’s always other people involved. There’s families, there’s friends, if there’s a new person there’s that as well so you’re trying to stay respectful to everyone. It’s easier said than done,” he added.
The Australian great, who is a regular face in the commentary box during home matches, pointed out that the delay in a public announcement gave him and Kyly the time to deal with it.
Clarke bid adieu to international cricket after having a successful career. Australia’s fourth-highest run-scorer in Tests, Clarke finished with 8643 runs in 115 Tests from 2004 to 2015. In 245 ODIs, he scored 7981 runs at 44.58. He also led Australia to the World Cup glory in March 2015 and also captained the visitors to twin wins over England in Ashes. However, the Australian side lost the series 3-2. Following the infamous ball-tampering scandal which had rocked the Australian cricket in 2018, Clarke had even offered to return to the side in any role.
