I think the den of the match-fixing mafia is in India: Former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed
Earlier, Aaqib Javed had given a statement that Wasim Akram, former Pakistan skipper, kept him outside the team in the 90s.
Aaqib Javed, the former bowler from Pakistan has always vocalised his voice against the match-fixing going on in the gentlemen’s game and harming its reputation. Now, he has come out making with a big statement that match-fixing ‘mafia den’ is in India.
The 47-year-old pacer didn’t have a very long and illustrious cricketing career as he was always overshadowed with the likes of Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram. But, he managed to leave his mark in a very short span on the back of his brilliant bowling. In 1991, he took a hat-trick against India in an ODI at the age of 19 and became the youngest bowler to do so in international cricket.
Aaqib Javed opens up about the match-fixing saga
In a recent interview, Aaqib Javed said that there are questions being raised on IPL games. And, he feels that India is a place where match-fixers fix matches on a very large scale. He added that the players, who raise their voice against such corrupt activities have to face its repercussions, “Questions have been raised about the IPL and I think the den of this match-fixing mafia in India. Those who blow the whistle against match-fixers hurt their own careers,” Aaqib told a television channel.
Javed also cited that Pakistan Cricket Board should not give second chance to the players that are found guilty in cricket related corrupt activities. “These things encourage those who have been involved with match-fixing,” he said.
The former pacer recited the fact that he had received death threats from anonymous people if he didn’t fix the games during his playing days. He also threw light on Pakistan cricket team of the 1990s and said that the team was fully equipped with many world-class players but yet they were performing quite bad in the tournaments including the Singers Cup.
“The team had great potential back then and yet they were seen underperforming in many events, including the Singer Cup,” the former player said.
