'I think the new government should assess'- Moin Khan on Ramiz Raja's future as PCB Chairman
Najam Sethi is reportedly expected to replace Ramiz Raja as the PCB Chairman
Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan has said that he does not mind if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wishes to hire a new Chairman to lead the cricket board. At the same time, he has also added that according to him, the new government first needs to assess whether Ramiz Raja wants to continue in the first place.
At the same time, Moin Khan also said that he aspires to work alongside PCB and has a strong vision that according to him can go a long way in the betterment of cricket in the country. Meanwhile, the ex-stumper has also urged Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to restore departmental cricket in the country so that the cricketers do not remain unemployed.
Cricket is perhaps the only sport remaining in Pakistan: Moin Khan
“It is a given that the PCB chairman is selected based on Patron-in-Chief’s nomination. Being a cricketer, I think the new government should assess if Ramiz Raja himself wants to continue or not,” said Moin Khan as quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“Having said that, if they want to select a new candidate then that is completely within the constitution of the cricketing board and there should be no problem about it. Cricket is perhaps the only sort remaining in Pakistan and the cricketing board should do everything in their power to cater to as many players as they possibly can; that can only be done through departmental cricket,” he further added.
Pakistan witnessed a change in political regime earlier this month when the Imran Khan-led government lost the no-confidence motion and had to relinquish the Prime Minister’s position with immediate effect and Shehbaz Sharif was named his successor. At the same time, there were also reports that Ramiz Raja would need to step down from his position and he would be replaced by Najam Sethi as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
However, no such developments have taken place so far. Raja’s dream project of the four-nation T20 proposal was also turned down unanimously by the International Cricket Council (ICC) during the two-day board meeting in Dubai a couple of weeks ago.
