The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has claimed to have earned a huge profit of two billion rupees from the recently concluded Australia tour of Pakistan. The PCB chairman Ramiz Raja expressed his happiness on the matter and emphasized the fact that this is a positive sign for the grassroots.
To note, Australia made their first tour to Pakistan in 24 years, and played three Tests and an equal number of ODIs apart from a one-off T20I. The series started on March 4 with the first Test and ended on April 5 after a one-off T20I. The visitors had an upper hand during the tour, as they managed to win both the Test and T20I series. However, the home side defeated Australia in the ODI series by a margin of 2-1.
Defeating India in the T20 World Cup was a turning point for us: Ramiz Raja
While speaking in a video released by the PCB, the chief of the board claimed that profit from Australia’s tour of Pakistan was huge and they will now be focusing on coaching, training, and education of youngsters.
“Defeating India in the T20 World Cup was a turning point for us and it took our cricket to new heights. It’s the effect you saw in the PSL as well where people owned this team, which also helped our commercial angle. So, from the commercial aspect, I think we have broken all the records. I think we will generate profit around two billion rupees from this [Australia] tour, which is humongous,” said Raja.
However, he also admitted the fact that Pakistan is on right track in commercial aspects, but they are still lagging in terms of cricket infrastructure. “We are on the right track when it comes to commercial and cricket aspects but we are far behind in terms of infrastructure. I was waiting for the Australia series to end so that we can move towards pathways cricket, where we will focus on coaching, training, and education of youngsters,” he added.
