Australian cricket has been through a lot in the past two years. From the nadir that was the ball-tampering scandal where questions were raised on the sporting culture of the country, leading to sweeping changes in the leadership both on and off the field to the zenith that was the regaining of the coveted Ashes Urn for the first time since 2001 on English soil in the summer of 2019, the former world champions completed a full circle.

These and all that happened in between which led to the Aussies restore their integrity in the eyes of cricketing folklore will be shown in The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team, an exclusive new docu-series which will release on Amazon Prime in Australia and 200 other countries on March 12, 2020.

Steve Smith has been at the heart of Australia’s renaissance when it comes to on-field performances and the latest sneak peek from ‘The Test’, Smith and his teammates share their thoughts on the superstar’s unusual batting quirks.

“I do some weird stuff. I don’t try to do it but it just kinda happens” admits Steve Smith

Smith’s technique and his exaggerated movement while leaving the ball outside the off-stump achieved cult status during the Ashes. Given his unusual technique, Smith shows his back to the bowler while leaving the ball before bringing his bat down at an awkward angle, making for unusual and fascinating viewing.

And, the latest sneak peek shows the champion batsman explain the nitty gritty’s and his mindset behind him doing it.

“I think its, left pad right pad, box, tap in the middle- behind my foot lookout- behind my foot lookout one, good to go” Smith said.

“The leave is always fun. Now, he is trying to jump up, Gee! You are going to see more of it. When he is doing that, he is on” said Usman Khawaja.

Smith’s love for the game and batting is well documented. The former captain recently revealed that he does not take the team bus every time he misses a Test hundred, and his teammates echoed the same.

“Very often there would be a message on teams’ WhatsApp group,  Steve, are you batting? Coz there you hear it, ‘Tap, Tap’ he’ll always batting or shadow batting” revealed Pat Cummins.
