Mohit Sharma, who joined the yellow army back in 2013 season on the back of a good first-class season for Haryana has been purchased by CSK for INR 5 crore. Chennai Super Kings had to battle it out with Mumbai Indians and Delhi capitals to acquire the services of the medium pacer. The 27-year old couldn’t have been happier as it is like a second homecoming for the player.

Mohit’s consistent performances for CSK and his state Haryana soon caught the selectors’ eyes and he was drafted into the national side for the tour to Zimbabwe where he turned in a Man-of-the-Match performance on ODI debut. By his own admission, the medium pacer owes a lot of his success to Chennai. “I cannot explain in words what it feels like going back to Chennai.” said an emotional Mohit to Cricketnext.

The pacer also added that the emotional connect with the Chennai staff, the Chennai people, the management is just unparallel. The culture that has been developed among the players and the management is unique and has played a key role in its success over the years. Mohit had featured for Kings XI Punjab from 2016 to 2018. However, he couldn’t replicate his past performances for KXIP as he managed only 33 wickets in 37 matches.

Excited to work under Dhoni once again

“The only thing on my mind is how I can contribute for the team like I have in the past. Hopefully, I can do that this time around too. And not just with my bowling, batting and fielding as well,” he added.

The fact that Mohit will be playing under MS Dhoni once again is the biggest takeaway for him as Dhoni had guided him in his initial years that ultimately led to Mohit representing India at the highest level. “Not just on the field, even off the field, the kind of ways he has helped me is immense. I try to somehow follow his footsteps and become even a tiny fragment of the kind of man he is. It is like a kid will always admire his father – that is how much I look up to him.” Mohit was quoted as saying by CricketNext.

An Indian fast bowler is a great asset to any IPL franchise. The fact that Mohit has the experience of playing at the highest level is the perfect icing on the cake for CSK. The yellow army will be looking to retain the title and bring joy to the fans once again.
