The cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan has been continuing for decades. From the best all-rounder debate between Imran Khan and Kapil Dev to the best batsman debate between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli– the arch-rivals of cricket have always dished out nail-biting thrillers for their fans. Be it with the red ball or the white ball, India and Pakistan matches have always gained a lot of spotlight.

While India have had an upper edge over Pakistan in World Cup encounters, the Men in Green have fared well in various other ODIs and Tests. In 59 Tests between the two cricket rivals, Pakistan have won 12. Similarly, the Men in Green have clinched 73 matches out of the total 132 One-day Internationals between both the countries.

Every fan in both the neighbouring countries stays glued to his television during any match between both sides. More than the cricketing rivalry between both the nations, it’s the competitiveness which attracts fans all across the globe.

‘Our rivals in those days weren’t India’: Imran Khan

However, former Pakistan skipper and current Prime Minister Imran Khan has stated that he used to feel sorry for the Indian side as they used to beat the Men in Blue so often. According to Imran Khan, India were not rivals of Pakistan during his playing days as India used to be in a lot of pressure. The Pakistan PM also revealed that India’s captain would be looking scared during the toss itself.

“I used to feel sorry for the Indian team because we beat them so often. They were under a lot of pressure. When I used to go to toss with their captain, I’d look at his face & he would be looking scared. Our rivals in those days weren’t India,” said Imran Khan as quoted by PakPassion Editor Saj Sadiq.

The last encounter between India and Pakistan was in 2019 World Cup where the former ousted the latter. Rohit Sharma was the star of the match as he smashed 140 runs off just 113 deliveries. After amassing 336 runs on the board, India restricted Pakistan to 212/6 and won the game by 89 runs (DLS method).

The two-arch rivals are slated to meet in the Asia Cup this year. However, considering the current situation across the world due to coronavirus outbreak, the possibility of the tournament to commence looks slim. Fans will have to perhaps wait a little longer to witness another nail-biting thriller between both the countries.
