The Global T20 Canada is all set to commence on June 28 as six teams will fight it out in the inaugural edition. The T20 tournament will also witness two of the best Australian cricketers Steve Smith and David Warner plying their trade for Toronto Nationals and Winnipeg Hawks respectively. Both are facing suspension of 12 months after their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal. Smith will play under the leadership of Darren Sammy who has welcomed him back to the cricket and is delighted to have him in the team. Cricket Australia (CA) had permitted them to play any league outside the country while punishing them for maligning the reputation of the country. Smith and Warner both have not played any cricket since March and, in a way, will make a come back later this month with the T20 league. Sammy was clear in his mind about using Smith’s immense experience at the highest level during the tournament and also exclaimed that his batting will help the team more often than not. “All I want is his experience as a leader, his experience as a T20 player and his performances on the field that could help Toronto Nationals be a force to be reckoned with,” he was quoted as saying by Syndey Morning Herald on Tuesday. He has dealt with the punishment Darren Sammy also hailed Steve Smith for accepting the mistake and taking the responsibility during the ball-tampering scandal. He was also of the opinion that everyone makes mistakes in the life and the Australian deserves another chance. “We all have done our fair share of mistakes in life, not just sports but in general. Obviously, Steve Smith is an amazing cricketer, someone who I would have on my team any day,” he added. “Obviously as captain of a national team you have certain responsibilities that you have to own up to for the team, and I was commended by his efforts and he has taken responsibility for his actions on the field. I am just happy to have a player of such calibre on my team. He has dealt with his punishment for what happened in South Africa,” the two-time World Cup winning captain of Windies went on to say.
